What is an LED bulkhead light?
An LED bulkhead has integrated LEDs instead of a replaceable lamp, so there is nothing to change for years. Most here also switch colour temperature.

Are LED bulkhead lights energy efficient?

The NOVA switchable bulkhead runs at 12W, 15W or 18W for 1,000, 1,300 or 1,600 lumens, and the Orion runs at 9W, 14W or 18W. Setting a lower wattage in a hallway and a higher one in a garage keeps the energy use matched to the job.
What IP rating does a bulkhead light need outdoors?
IP54 suits a sheltered position such as a porch or under a soffit. For a fully exposed wall taking driving rain, choose IP65.

Can a bulkhead light be used as emergency lighting?
Yes, if it is an emergency bulkhead. The 3W IP65 emergency bulkhead gives 3 hours of backup light from its battery when the mains fails.
It delivers over 250 lumens in mains mode and 110 lumens in emergency mode, runs maintained or non maintained, and a self testing variant is available. Do I need an electrician to fit a bulkhead light?
Yes. A bulkhead is fixed wiring, so it should be connected by a registered electrician on a properly protected circuit, indoors or out.
Replacing an old bulkhead like for like is usually a short job. A new outdoor position is more work, because the cable route and the circuit protection have to be right for a wet location.
