What is the difference between indoor and outdoor Christmas lights?
Outdoor lights carry an IP rating that seals the lamp holders and joins against water. Indoor lights have no such seal and will fail outside.
The rating is the whole difference. An indoor set hung on a hedge may work for a fortnight and then trip the circuit once water reaches a lamp holder. If a set has no IP number printed on the box or the plug label, treat it as indoor only. Anything going on a wall, a fence, a hedge or a garden tree needs an outdoor rating, and any connection made outdoors needs a weatherproof enclosure.
What kind of Christmas lights work best indoors?
